Kirkwood's
Campers and Their Parents
First, here's a story
from a summer staff member who attended Kirkwood as a camper:
"I was in the 4th
grade and 10 years old when I first went to Kirkwood Camp. Raised
in the church my entire life, I knew all the Bible stories and was
in touch with our church. However, at Kirkwood, Jesus became a reality
-- in the trees, in nature but especially in the counselors.
On Thursday evening of the last night at Kirkwood, our small group
camped out under the stars in the lower meadow. This special night
began with eachcamper being given a "witness bracelet"
that contained three knots. Each knot had a special meaning:
1) I'm not
of this world
2) I'm not ashamed to be a Christian
3) The third knot completed the Trinity.
Later that evening, the
entire group walked over to the darkened pond. There, floating in
the middle was a large wooden cross, lit with candles. Our counselor
then asked if anyone had made a decision that week to accept Christ.
I spoke up saying that I had. Then, hand in hand with the counselor,
we walked to the end of the dock and together prayed and invited
Jesus into my heart and life."
More comments from summer campers and parents:"On a scale of
1 to 10, 10 being the highest, I would rate Camp Kirkwood as a 10+.
"He told us some very heart warming Bible stories and he is
reading the Bible all on his own more."
"As long as I can remember, Kirkwood Camp has been the backbone
of my life, the building block of my youth and the highlight of
my summer. It has shaped my outlook on life, formed me into a devoted
Christian and helped mold me into the person I am today."
"Kirkwood has taught me how to accept God into my life and
apply His Word to life. It has taught me to accept others, no matter
who they are. I have been guided in how to forgive, teach and live
for God's glory."
"At Kirkwood, you can sense God all around you. It gives you
an immense feeling of freedom and peace."
