Retreats @ Kirkwood

Kirkwood ain’t just for the summer 🙂

Fall is spectacular here every year!

We have a number of fun events planned between now and the end of the year–and we want you to be here for them!

Fall Retreats:

Middle School Fall Retreat, November 3-5

This retreat will be a blast! Come join us on the first weekend in November to have an action-packed weekend of fun. Our day Saturday will be highlighted with guests from the Synod of the Trinity and our local church leaders as we plant a new tree to celebrate 300 years of Presbyterian ministry in the US and Pennyslvania. Later that day, we will have our first-ever “Zipline Pumpkin Smash.” Look, we know those pumpkins that you worked so hard to carve for Halloween sit on your porch an extra week or two–bring them here (or we will have extras) and take them with you down the zipline. We will have targets to hit–and prizes for winners!

It will be a one-of-a-kind weekend for Kirkwood that you won’t want to miss!

When: Friday November 3 Arrival 6:30-7:45, Departure after breakfast Sunday 11/5
Where: YOUR camp at Kirkwood
Fall Foliage Level: Past peak but still very pretty
Who: Youth 6th-8th grade
Cost: $75/youth, $60/adult leaders
What you get: 2 nights at Kirkwood, delicious meals, new friends, fun games, engaging discussions, new perspectives on scripture and yourself, the opportunity to win prizes by throwing a pumpkin while also zip-lining, and a unique, memorable weekend at Kirkwood.

We encourage youth groups to come as a group, and we especially encourage leaders/advisers to attend as well (PA clearances required :))! It will be great to have you with us!

Christmas At Kirkwood

When: Saturday December 9 Optional overnight
Where: YOUR camp at Kirkwood
Christmas Level: Rising
Who: Everybody!
Cost: WOW it’s free 🙂 (optional donations accepted!)
What is it?: Usually during December, Kirkwood is cold, dark, and empty. That’s really sad! Come help us warm things up with our first-ever Kirkwood  Christmas lighting Contest! Use that Christmas light-decorating prowess and expertise to decorate one of our buildings over the course of the afternoon–and enjoy the fruits of your labor after dark, with dinner, hot cider, and Christmas carols. Each church (or team of churches) will be connected with one of our buildings and will have the day to decorate it to the fullest yuletide glory imaginable.  There will be judges and prizes–including a free day event at Kirkwood for your congregation, a free week of camp for a new camper in your congregation, t-shirts, and more!

“After Christmas is over, there’s nothing to be excited about.” WRONG. Let us change your mind with the one…the only…WINTER CAMP. See some of your favorite faces from the summer time, including some of our summer camp counselors, as we go through a few days as a camp community in the winter time. Experience all of your favorite camp activities in a very different kind of Kirkwood (No bugs!! No poison ivy!! No rained out activities!!), including the unique feel of camp in the winter. It might be cold outside, but imagine a roaring fire in the Stroup fire place and our cozy new cabins–it’s the perfect way to spend some of the down days of Christmas vacation. This will be a blast for long-time campers and new campers alike.

When: Thursday December 28 at 3:30pm-Saturday December 30 at 3:30pm
Where: YOUR camp at Kirkwood
Camp Level: Ultimate
Who: 5th graders-12th graders
Cost: TBD
What you get: An amazing winter camp experience, with songs, campfires, s’mores, your favorite camp games and activities–plus NEW, winter-camp-only traditions to experience for the first time. Chance of bugs and posion ivy? Low. Chance of a new, unique Kirkwood experience? High. Chance of snow? We’ll see……… 🙂
